Mission Possible, Cebu Temple with the Elders

This week we had the very special privilege of accompanying 10 Elders to the Cebu temple in the Philippines. Because of Covid restrictions they could not attend the temple until now. I’m telling you, these are fantastic young men, we just loved every minute of our time with them.
Standing in front of Magellan's cross in Cebu. This wooden cross commemorates that cross that Magellan placed in this location in 1521, which was the beginning of Christianity in the Philippines. There are two stories about the present cross. One says that this is a wood overlay of the original and that the original cross is inside. The other story is that the original was lost or destroyed and this is a replacement cross put up by the Spaniards.

Our Indonesian Elders love to sing and so do the Philippinos. The brother with the Uke is a temple worker who just got it out when he heard the Elders singing and led them in a few gospel songs as they were waiting for their next session. We made some videos of them singing but blogger is kinda stingy with storage space and would not allow me to host the video here.

We drove out to the shore with the Elders and this beautiful cloud formed over the ocean with the sun behind it. The rays in the sky above are made by the sun behind the cloud.

  1. Thanks for your post. That sounds like a great trip to the temple. Does your mission cover part of the Philippines? Did you fly to get there? Was the session in the native language of your mission?

  2. Two young men that are leaving on missions soon spoke in Sacrament Meeting today. One was Elder Ethan Funk who will be serving in the Mexico, Villahermosa Mission. The other was Elder Seth Woodson who will be serving in the Dallas Texas East Mission. The 2nd hour was a 5th Sunday combined meeting for adults and youth. Apparently, the subject of Love, Share, Invite was the subject worldwide, as directed by church leaders. Corban Baumgartner told a great story about a Book of Mormon he gave to a new friend he met at a wrestling camp during the summer. A young adult sister (whose name I don't remember), who was recently called to serve in the Philippines, shared her preparation and testimony. Robin and I were asked to share a few remarks about our preparations for our mission. It was a good meeting, like Sacrament Meeting.
Robin and I has a Zoom call with our new Mission President and his wife last week. It was nice to meet them. Sounds like another Senior Couple has been called to our same mission. Don't know if they are experiencing visa delays like us.
